Real or AI?

AI is getting seriously good. We all know that. Remember the old timey AI Images from like the original DALL-E?

The image you just saw was the first AI painting ever sold. I don’t think I could have afforded it 🙂

Anyway, you can tell that it was AI. That is because it was made in 2018. Some other AI Images date back to the 1970s like this one from the Smithsonian:

These images are obviously not realistic, because they’re art. People used AI to make art because art doesn’t have to be photorealistic. Early photorealistic art is a different story. Just see the image below!

OH NO! I sure hope that the cat is okay!

Anyone that has ever touched grass knows that it is AI. That image was made in 2020. Back then, I had to stay 6 feet away from my girlfriend at the movie theaters.

Now, 5 years later, AI, when prompted correctly, can make a pretty realistic image. Let’s try it!

What can we learn from this?

AI art, while cool, can sometimes be misleading. In conclusion, to make sure that an image (or any other type of media) is real, fact check it, look closely at the details, run reverse image searches, and more.
