Why we shouldn’t use cloud computing services

Alright this is ridiculous. In under a month, both Cloudflare and AWS have experienced major outages. This leads to many websites dependent on these services not working, such as Canva (Cloudflare & AWS), X (Cloudflare & AWS), and OpenAI (Cloudflare)

Why are there like, three companies ruling 90% of the internet?

The answer is simple: people don’t want to deal with hosting their own stuff. It’s easier to blame Amazon for their servers being down instead of their tiny ahh servers in Yemen, whereas AWS servers are everywhere (including northern VA it drives me crazy a bunch of big boxes everywhere). Rants aside, cloud computing is easy to use. But there’s one problem: ITS EXPENSIVE! Most services offer pay-by-request, so you either pay 1 cent or 2 million dollars. The sad thing is, bots exist, and AI crawlers aren’t helping. These people are wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars on cloud computing when they can just host it themselves for a fraction of that.

Would I self-host?

NAH. Cloud computing is so much easier to use than a web host! You have settings, security features, CDN control, and that cool AI chatbot that you can talk to because you have no friends.

Currently, this blog is running on TornadoVPS’s cheapest plan. This may change because Hostinger has this tantalizing Black Friday deal…

The final verdict

The internet is ruled by three big companies.

Use cloud computing, but if your website grows, consider a regular web hosting service, like Hostinger or something.
